The Oasis
The majority of the Irish population is fortunate enough to have access to good quality flowing water but yet, publicly available water is not used and the amount of bottled water purchased in Ireland is still on the rise. Bottled water production causes serious environmental issues worldwide. It burns fossil fuels, causes droughts, destroys natural habitats, and adds to the exuberant amount of the world’s plastic waste. In fact, It takes three liters of water to manufacture a one-liter bottle and in 2016, Irish consumers spent more than €76.5 million on bottled water. In tandem with this issue, there has been a significant decline in the amount of access points of public drinking water in Ireland over the past few decades. The majority of the access points that remain are unkept, unsafe and unappealing to the public.
